Third day on the red road.

Wednesday.

Today we had our written exam and practicals on bandaging. Basically the red cross training that I signed up for was for beginners so we had to learn all the basic skills and techniques necessary to administer first aid. First aid means giving immediate care to people who are sick or injured. The objectives of Red Cross are to alleviate suffering, reduce danger or injury, and prolong life. In emergency situations, I believe that the knowledge I have gained would enable me to help other people.

During the training I had a lot of fun. Training duration is 8 hours. We were taught how to help prolong people’s life in times of danger. Emergency transfer techniques, bandaging and splinting activities were very exciting and fun for me. I had fun and I am glad that I joined in the training. I feel nice that I am actually learning something practical and useful.

In one of the exercises, I was voluntereed by the instructor to play the rescuer and demonstrate firefighter’s drag. Im glad I wasnt the shy type me anymore. The firefighter’s drag is a type of one-man emergency transfer techniques. Just look at the picture to get what Im saying:

Tomorrow we are going to have our Basic Life Support training. Im going to get to learn how to do rescue breathing, CPR and all other life-saving stuff that will potentially be useful in the future. I am currently envying the lifeguard volunteers.. I think Id like to be a life guard. Id like to do good and be good in the water. Id like to be able to get to know the waters and be at home in it. Id like to help people learn how to be friends with the great big body of ocean so that they could escape its wrath.

So here I am just having fun, Im in Pantukan, Comval. The beaches here are so clear, beautiful and savage!. The riskier the better!. The actual waters that I am about to break into proved to be the home of walo-walo and tangkigi. Basically sea snakes that live in holes near rocks, one poisonous the other scary looking. Actually before we got in this makeshift diving area, we encountered a dead sea snake. Apparently bitten by a large fish owing to the big holes near its stomach. Nevertheless we believed in God and we weren’t there to drive the snakes away, we were there to share with them nature’s bounty!. Unbelievably, they also came and joined us which actually excited us and suddenly made us feel it would be much better if we swim on the shallower part to avoid riot.
