Beauty Vitamin 1: Ascorbic Acid

Vitamin C: Ascorbic Acid

Ascorbic Acid or Vitamin C is a beauty vitamin because it is reponsible for

1. Keeping our skin’s connective tissue firm, supple, and in its top form.

Daily Vitamin C Requirement

For Men - 90mg / day
For women - 75mg / day
For smokers -double dose or up to 500mg/day

Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin and when the renal threshold is exceeded, vitamin C is lost through urine.

An excess of 1500mg of Vitamin C favors its excretion from the body. Vitamin C is also best absorbed when taken at small doses in one day, rather than a single large dose. This is because the receptors for Vitamin C in the intestines are saturable.

An amount of >25mg of Vitamin C taken results to 90% absorption in the GI tract.

Thus it is advisable to take small amounts of Vitamin C at different times of the day to increase chances of vitamin absorption and utility.

Kundalini Yoga

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

In the microcosmic form the all-powerful Creative Energy (shakti) is symbolized in the form of a coiled serpent, i.e., in a state of inaction, residing at the base of the spine in the human body.

The aim of Kundalini Yoga is to awaken the serpent and to force her, stage by stage, to ascend the spinal canal, known as susumna, until She reaches the seat of Shiva in the highest centre in the brain.

This ascent, it is stated, takes years to accomplish, though in exceptional cases only a short time, constantly attended by divine manifestations.

At each of the five lower cakras, or lotuses, the ascending shakti dissolves one of the five primordial elements of which the visible cosmos is constituted (namely, earth, water, fire, air and ether) into the basic substance, which is consciousness, until after dissolving the mind and ego, which are also the forms of primeval shakti, the liberated spirit finds itself in ecstatic union with the Eternal Conscious Reality to which it owes its being.

Pina Colada

Nice song - Wanted Movie OST

I was tired of my lady
We’d been together too long
Like a worn-out recording
Of a favorite song
So while she lay there sleeping
I read the paper in bed
And in the personal columns
There was this letter I read

“If you like Pina Coladas
And getting caught in the rain
If you’re not into yoga
If you have half a brain
If you’d like making love at midnight
In the dunes on the Cape
Then I’m the love that you’ve looked for
Write to me and escape.”

I didn’t think about my lady
I know that sounds kind of mean
But me and my old lady
Have fallen into the same old dull routine
So I wrote to the paper
Took out a personal ad
And though I’m nobody’s poet
I thought it wasn’t half bad

“Yes I like Pina Coladas
And getting caught in the rain
I’m not much into health food
I am into champagne
I’ve got to meet you by tomorrow noon
And cut through all this red-tape
At a bar called O’Malley’s
Where we’ll plan our escape.”

So I waited with high hopes
And she walked in the place
I knew her smile in an instant
I knew the curve of her face
It was my own lovely lady
And she said, “Oh it’s you.”
Then we laughed for a moment
And I said, “I never knew.”

That you like Pina Coladas
Getting caught in the rain
And the feel of the ocean
And the taste of champagne
If you’d like making love at midnight
In the dunes of the Cape
You’re the lady I’ve looked for
Come with me and escape

repeat chorus twice and fade out

Buddhism quotes

Zen mind is not Zen mind. That is, if you are attached to Zen mind, then you have a problem, and your way is very narrow.

Throwing away Zen mind is correct Zen mind.

Only keep the question, “What is the best way of helping other people?”

Seung Sahn (Essential Zen)

“It is maybe not the best choice to have a favorite anything.”

“In the practice of tolerance, one’s enemy is the best teacher.”

“All major religious traditions carry basically the same message, that is love, compassion and forgiveness … the important thing is they should be part of our daily lives.”

“This is my simple religion. There is no need for temples; no need for complicated philosophy. Our own brain, our own heart is our temple; the philosophy is kindness.”

Once Yunmen said to the assembly:

“Medicine and disease cure each other. The entire earth is medicine. What is the self?”

 (Essential Zen)

Water which is too pure has no fish.

 Ts’ai Ken T’an

A monk asked Chao-chou, “I have just entered the monastery: please give me some guidance.” Chao-chou said, “Have you eaten your rice gruel?” The monk said,”Yes, I’ve eaten.” Chao-chou said, “Then go wash your bowl.”

Zen Mondo

When an ordinary man attains knowledge, he is a sage; when a sage attains understanding, he is an ordinary man

Zen Saying

Be master of mind rather than mastered by mind.
